 Welcome to year 4

Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 4. We, Miss Cullen and Mr. Kelliher, are delighted to have joined the Saint John Fisher community and we thank you for such a warm welcome.  Our Caritas themes this term are Love of Others, Exploring our Responsibilities and Happiness.

What Are Year 4 Learning?

Our theme this term is titled Planet in Peril. In this we will be journeying into the environmental impact of deforestation, pollution and the resultant impact on local and global communities. However, the light of hope through responsibility for our planet, both collective and individual, will shine through.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been exploring the features of recounts through the book, ‘The Vanishing Rainforest.’  This has included grammatical features, drama and role play. In the next fortnight, we will be writing our own recount on this theme of deforestation in English and have linked this to geography and science through the study of biomes, habitats, adaptation and interdependence.

PE

Please ensure that your child always has the correct kit in school. Earrings are not to be worn for PE lessons. If your child cannot remove their earrings independently then please ensure they are removed before school. PE will take place on ...

Home Learning

Home Learning is given to the children each Monday and needs to be returned by Friday morning. Spellings and times tables tests are conducted each Friday.

Reading: The Reading Records will be checked every Friday. Each child's book should be signed by an adult at least three times every week. Children do need to bring their Reading Record in every day as we endeavour to hear a selection of children read daily.

Times Table Check

In early June, the children will be taking part in the national Multiplication Tables Check. They are expected to know all the times tables, up to 12 x 12, by this point. Please ensure your child practises regularly. Logging on to and using TimesTables RockStars will help with this.
