What are Rec / Year 1 learning?

We have been having so much fun in R1D!

In English, Year 1 have been busy reading ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. The children have been writing their own diary entries from the perspective on the Little Old Woman. The Reception children have been busy writing sentences about the seaside. They have even wrote their own short stories about a day out at the beach!

In Maths, we have been learning about time. The children have had lots of fun timing themselves doing star jumps and hoping. Soon, we will be looking at telling the time from an analogue clock. Also, we have been exploring the formation of numbers up to 100.

In Science, we have enjoyed studying ‘Animals Including Humans’. The children enjoyed making their own animal habitats inside shoe boxes. Next, we will be learning about and growing our own plants.

In Art, we had fun using graphite pencils to sketch birds. We have also started to explore ‘Flora and Fauna’ artwork.

In RE, we are learning about Jesus’ disciples and how we can also be a friend of Jesus. The children are writing their own prayers and friendship bracelets.

Lastly, in Topic we have been studying the Geography and History of Loughton. We have explored how Loughton has changed over time and have even made our own fact files on our town.
