WELCOME TO yEAR 1

Welcome to our Year 1 page! Year 1 is an extremely important and significant year for all the children. As the children transition from early years to year 1 we aim to build on their skills, knowledge, experience, independence, curiosity and love of learning. We have lots of exciting learning planned this term including building castles and a school trip. At the heart of all our learning is the knowledge that we come together as a family and the love of God is with us all, so welcome to our community.

What Are Year 1 Learning?

Maths - In maths this term we are starting to learn about multiplication and division. The children are practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s by singing lost of songs and playing counting games. We are also learning about making equal groups using resources and counting in groups of 2, 5 and 10.

English: Within our English lesson the children are looking at a range of story books with animals in. This links with our topic of this term which is 'all creatures great and small'. The children are practising reading with expression and answering comprehension questions about the stories as well as sequencing the stories and writing character and setting descriptions.

Science: In Science we are learning about the human body, labelling parts of the body and discussing what we use different parts of the body for.

RE: Within RE the children will be exploring the concept of Holidays and Holydays and answering key questions about them. How are these days the same and how are they different? What do we do on holiday and on holydays? Why are these day important?

Computing: In our computing lessons this term the children will be using the laptops to research facts about different creatures. They will continue to practise logging on and off and to use the laptops independently.

PE

Reminder: School PE Kit should to be worn for all PE lessons; this includes black plimsolls/black or white trainers, black or navy shorts and a white t-shirt. Jewellery/watches are not to be worn on P.E days and long hair must be tied back. Please note, any children who are unable to take their earrings out will not be physically involved in these sessions. They will ‘take part’ by observing the lesson and assisting the class teacher.
