Sports Premium
What is the sports premium?
The government has provided funding of £150 million pounds per annum for PE and sports in primary schools. The funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport. Sports premium should develop or add to the PE and sport activities and to build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made will benefit pupils in future years.
There are 5 key indicators that schools should expect to see improvement across:
1. The engagement of all pupils in physical activity. Children should engage in 60 mins of physical activity a day of which 30 mins should be in school.
2. The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
5. Increased participation in competitive sports.

Sports and PE at St John Fisher Primary School
At St John Fisher School we believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical development and well-being. A broad and balanced physical education curriculum is intended to provide for pupils’ increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable, satisfying and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils. Through the selection of suitable differentiation and logically developed tasks, it is intended that pupils, irrespective of their innate ability, shall enjoy success and be motivated to develop further their individual potential and take part in lifelong physical activity
Sport and PE is highly prioritised at St John Fisher and this funding has enabled the school’s passion for sports to flourish. Our ambition and goal are to raise the profile of sport in the school and to ensure inclusive participation from all pupils in sport.
